One of the best parts of going to an sf / f convention is attending the art show. I'm always awed by the talent of the artists. It's a kick to spend hours scrutinizing a painting, wondering why an artist chose to put all that detail into a drawing of some fibers making up the tassel on the belt of a wizard's robe, or whether that artist really really had to work hard to express the vision in her head, or did it all just come flowing out and surprise her as much as the rest of us.
